Akhila Malankara Orthodox Sushrooshaka Sangamam
Annual Report 2024-2025 Annexure 5
It is with great pleasure and gratitude that I present the Annual Report of AMOSS – UK-Europe & Africa Diocese for the year 2024–25. As a spiritual organization under the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, AMOSS was established to ensure uniformity in altar services across MOSC Parishes worldwide. It also serves a greater purpose of nurturing and moulding the future spiritual leaders of our Church. At the Parish level, AMOSS focuses on maintaining discipline during liturgical celebrations, fostering unity and responsibility within the acolyte community through regular meetings, delegation of duties, and training in liturgical songs and prayers for special occasions. Additionally, AMOSS continues to support the daily operations of our churches by assisting office bearers in maintaining the sanctity and order of the altar and church premises.
Under the spiritual guidance of our Diocesan Metropolitan, H.E. Abraham Mar Stephanos, we have worked diligently towards the growth and spiritual enrichment of the acolyte community across the UK-Europe, and Africa.
A significant highlight of the year was the Annual Acolytes Meeting held on 19th October 2024 at St. Stephen’s Indian Orthodox Church, Birmingham. The event was inaugurated by Diocesan Metropolitan and presided over by Fr. Binoy C Joshua, with over 200 acolytes participating from across the UK. Enriching sessions led by Fr. Jibin Thomas Abraham and Fr. K.M. George emphasized the sacred responsibilities of acolytes in ensuring the reverent conduct of the Holy Qurbana.
The event also marked a key organizational milestone, with the election of new zonal office bearers to strengthen decentralized operations:
· Mr. Moncy Abraham (Central Zone Secretary)
· Mr. C.K. John (South Zone Secretary)
· Mr. Jeffin Dan John (North Zone Secretary)
· Mr. Melvin Manoj (Media & Communications Coordinator)
· Mr. Shainu Abraham (Treasurer).
A follow-up meeting with the newly elected team was held on 21st November 2024, where plans were laid for zonal-level engagements, acolyte database creation, and the introduction of a £5 annual subscription for members aged 18 and above, supplementing event registration fees.
At the zonal level, following the decisions taken during the office bearers' meeting, AMOSS leadership team plans to organise gatherings in all three zones:
· South Zone meeting at St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Cathedral, Brockley, London on 6th April 2025
· North Zone meeting at St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Sheffield on 5th May 2025
· Central Zone meeting at St. Stephen’s Indian Orthodox Church, Birmingham on 17th May 2025.
These events will be led by the respective zonal secretaries to help strengthen local engagement and deepen the spiritual commitment of our acolytes.
I take this opportunity to sincerely thank Thirumeni, Fr. Varghese Mathew (Diocesan Secretary), all Vicars, my fellow office bearers of AMOSS, previous office bearers and our dedicated acolytes for their unwavering support and commitment to this sacred ministry.
