Poole St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church
England, United Kingdom
Like many other Parishes in the UK, the Parish in Poole, Dorset had its humble beginnings from Prayer Fellowship in the name of Poole Prayer Group since 2003 with weekly prayers. As per the instructions of then Vicar of London Brockley St. Gregorios Rev. Fr. Abraham Thomas, Rev. Fr. Varghese Mathew from Bristol St. Mary's Indian Orthodox Church came to attend the Poole Prayer Group in August 2004. Following several discussions, the first Holy Qurbana was celebrated at Bournemouth Winton on 18th November 2004 by Rev. Fr. John Mathew Pallipad along with Rev Abraham Thomas. Regular monthly Holy Qurabana have been conducted ever since.
In January 2005, Rev. Fr. Varghese T. Mathew took over the responsibility of Poole Church fellowship. It was decided to have regular Holy Qurabana on every third Saturdays of the month. The introduction of memberships in 2006 witnessed the further formalization of the Prayer Fellowship towards becoming a Parish. The Congregation was finally declared as a Parish by the late Metropolitan Dr. Thomas Mar Makarios and in January 2007 as St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church.
