Parish

Oxford St. Marys Indian Orthodox Church

England, United Kingdom

The Parish is located in Headington, Oxford in the south east of England. Like most of the other Parishes in the Diocese, the Congregation in Oxford had its humble beginnings in prayer meetings held in the area from as early as 2009. It was at the time led by Rev. Fr. John Samuel, the then Vicar of London St. Gregorios Church. Following the request of members in the area, Diocesan Metropolitan HG Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios granted permission to conduct Holy Qurbana and appointed Rev. Fr. John Samuel as the first Vicar of the St Mary’s Indian Orthodox Congregation in Oxford. The first Holy Qurbana was conducted on December 19th 2009. Members of the Parish participate actively in all Spiritual Organizations such as Sunday School, MOMS, Youth fellowship as well as House Prayer Meetings held every third Friday. The Parish was registered with the Charity Commission England and Wales on 2012 March. Members also actively support all Diocesan programs. Rev. Fr. Mathews Kuriakose served as Vicar from December 2010 to August 2014 following which Rev. Fr. Varghese John took over as Vicar until August 2017. Rev. Fr. Tom Jacob served as Vicar from August 2017 until 2022.
