Leicester St. George Indian Orthodox Church

England, United Kingdom

The St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Leicester started as a prayer group in the year 2008. Members of Indian Orthodox Church living in and around Leicester, Kettering and Nottingham commenced monthly prayers at the residence of the members under the guidance and leadership Rev. Fr. Tom Jacob. It was in the month of March 2009, that the first Holy Qurbana was celebrated by Fr. Tom Jacob in the Blessed Sacrament RC Church, Braunstone, Leicester. Later, following a request from the members in the area, Diocesan Metropolitan HG Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios formally declared the Congregation as a Parish on 01 June 2009 with Rev. Fr. Tom Jacob as the priest in charge. He was succeeded by Rev. Fr. Varghese Mathew in August 2014 and re-appointed as vicar in August 2017. Currently Rev. Fr. Binoy C. Joshua has been serving as Vicar since July 2020.

With very humble beginning of just 12 families, the Parish has today grown with 33 registered families. In February of 2019, the Parish was registered as a Charity. Holy Qurbana is celebrated on the first Saturday of every month along with other spiritual activities. From 2018 onwards, the Parish has been congregating at St. Peter’s Church, Glenfield, Leicester, given by Church of England under a spiritual partnership to use for next ten years. Spiritual Organizations such as Sunday School, MGOCSM (Youth), MOMS, etc. actively function in the parish.
