Parish
Glasgow St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church
Scotland, United Kingdom
The St Gregorios Indian Orthodox Congregation of Glasgow had its modest beginnings with a small group of people living in and around Glasgow, following a prayer meeting led by Rev. Fr. Varughese John at the residence of Mr. Monittan Muthalaly on the Easter day of 2010. The first Holy Qurbana was celebrated on 15th May 2010 at Broom Church, Newton Mearns, Glasgow. The blessings and guidance from the Diocesan Bishop H.G. Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios, who appointed Fr. Varughese John as the first Vicar, has indeed been a great impetus in its formation and further development of this Parish.
Since May 2010 regular Holy Qurbana has been conducted on the third Saturday of every month and the Church of Scotland has been extremely generous in providing their sanctuary and premises for our worship. In August 2010 the venue of worship was shifted to Sandyhills Parish Church, Baillieston Road, Glasgow. Over a short span of few months, the Parish took a long leap spiritually and could attract more members into its fold with its multifarious activities. The year 2011 witnessed the beginning of Sunday School (Bible classes for children), St Thomas prayer group and St Mary’s women’s league. Holy Week has been celebrated in the Parish since 2011.
