Switzerland St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Congregation

Switzerland, Europe

The Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church members in Switzerland officially started their liturgical gathering on May 1st, 2007. The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in a Church at Winterthur. After that liturgy, the members expressed their desire to gather and celebrate liturgy once a month. The unavailability of a permanent place of worship led to the liturgical services being conducted at various locations in Switzerland. It was only a few years later that the Saint Anna Catholic Church extended their hands to this Congregation granting permission to use the current church building in Gachnang. Holy Qurbana has since been conducted once a month.

On 23rd September 2008, the supreme head of the Malankara Church, His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Didymus I, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan recognized the Congregation as a parish under the diocese of UK-Europe and Africa. The parish was dedicated to the blessed memory of Saint Gregorios of Parumala, the first declared saint from Malankara. At present around families from various part of Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Austria are affiliated with this Parish and participate in the liturgical gatherings every month.
