Leuven (Belgium) St. James the Apostle Indian Orthodox Congregation

Belgium, Europe

The Indian Orthodox faithful in Belgium began gathering for worship in Leuven in 2018, with the Holy Qurbana being celebrated once a month until 2020. From 2020 onwards, the frequency of services increased to twice a month. During this formative period, the community received invaluable pastoral support from H.E. Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios and Fr. Aashu Alexander Mattackal, who ministered to and nurtured the growing congregation.

On 16 March 2024, H.E. Abraham Mar Stephanos officially declared the community a Congregation under the Diocese of UK, Europe and Africa, naming it the β€œSt. James the Apostle Indian Orthodox Congregation, Leuven, Belgium.” Following its official recognition, the congregation has continued to gather twice a month for the celebration of the Holy Qurbana, with plans to increase the services to three times a month from February 2026. Since its establishment, the congregation has developed a vibrant parish life, marked by regular Sunday School sessions, monthly prayer meetings and OCYM activities. The community also observes Christmas and Holy Week services regularly. In addition, the parish feast is celebrated annually in the month of May, honouring St. James the Great, the patron saint of the Congregation.
